Retail and Hospitality Level 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This combined qualification is aimed towards learners who are interested in working in either the café or retail industry. The units of study are based around the art of making and serving great coffee, while providing excellent customer service. The qualifications include both theory and practical elements with some units being delivered in a classroom setting and some through the completion of work experience in a café & retail environment.

CERTIFICATION

• New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Level 2)
• New Zealand Certificate in Retail (Level 2)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learners will cover:

• Customer service training
• Commercial espresso training (barista training)
• On site work experience in a café setting and/or a well-known retail store
• Retail legislation
• Gain knowledge of products and services on offer
• Safe lifting techniques
• Learn how to interact effectively with customers
• Personal presentation skills
• Customer interaction

WHO CAN ENROL?

This is a youth qualification designed for all learners aged 16 – 24 who do not already hold a qualification at level 2 or above. Learners should hold 40+ level 1 credits on the NZQF.

There are a limited number of adult places available at most of our centers.

Applicants must also be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

You can study at one of the following centres

• Lower Hutt
• Upper Hutt
• Kapiti
• Porirua
• Waipukurau

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

This is a full time 24 week combined programme.
Monday – Thursday between the hours of 9:00am – 2:30pm
Friday between the hours of 09:00am – 12:30pm

ARE THERE ANY COSTS?

This programme is fees free – we’ll also provide free breakfast each day.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On the completion of this qualification, graduates will have the necessary skills to gain front-line employment in a variety of retail outlets or assist them to find employment and work effectively in a café environment. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies towards the New Zealand Certificate in Retail (Level 3) or the New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage service (Level 3) at an external organisation.
