Our Employment Preparation Programmes are funded by the Ministry of Social Development, with the primary objective to equip participants with work-ready skills and help them find paid employment. We have two Employment Preparation programmes running throughout the year – Training for Work and WorkPrep. We also run occasional short courses preparing clients for contact centre roles within specific organisations. These short focused courses are run on an ad hoc basis.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
On the WorkPrep programme you will gain work related skills such as:
- CV and Cover Letter writing
- Interview Skills
- Workplace Communication Skills
- Advice and guidance with budgeting
- Managing your health
At our Waipukurau site, along with receiving support with your job searching, you will have the opportunity to participate in industry specific training such as:
- Contact Centre
- Business Administration and Computing
- Hospitality (barista training)
- Health and Safety
WHO CAN ENROL?
In Wellington, this programme is for Wellington region Work and Income clients who have an obligation to undertake full-time or part-time employment; or an obligation to prepare for, or be available for, work.
In Waipukurau, this programme is for Work and Income clients from the Waipukurau service centre who are eligible for employment preparation and job search support.
WHERE CAN I STUDY?
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?
WorkPrep is a six week course, unless you get a job sooner.
In Lambton Quay, each course runs Mon–Thurs 9:00am–2:30pm and Fri 9:00am–12:00pm.
In Waipukurau, clients are seen on a one-to-one basis as arranged with the tutor.

This programme is fees free – we’ll also provide free breakfast and cover your travel costs!
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
After completing WorkPrep, you will have the skills and confidence you need to help you find employment, or move on to further study.
